"The Necklace by Guy de Maupassant"

This story takes place in France where the protagonist Mathilde was born and raised from a family of clerks. She was a woman that had no expectations or dreams, didn't care about being noticed, and didn't expect to marry a rich guy. Coincidently, she married a man that was a clerk. One day, her husband ask her to go to a ball with her, but she didn't want to go because she was poor and didn't look acceptable. Her husband offered her 400 francs to please her to go by buying a new dress, but that didn't please her until he told her to borrow some jewelry from her good friend. Which she did borrowed a flashy diamond necklace and looked glamorous and stood out in front of the crowd. After the ball, she notice her friend's diamond necklace disappear and her husband couldn't find it also. They decided to buy a new one that looked alike and was in debt for ten years to buy that necklace. After 10 years, her friend approach and didn't recoginize Mathilde until she responded that her necklace caused her and her husband to be in debt for ten years and working real hard to buy her the necklace. Her friend responded by saying that necklace wasn't that expensive which cost around 500 francs. This story was amazing because the ending caught my attention and it was short and fascinating.
